We\u2019re willing to provide all necessary training; we just need someone that\u2019s willing and eager to learn. Work 10-20 hours a week, night and weekend avalabilty a must.<\/p>\n

Carrie and Alexis Roccos opened the first Vertical Adventures gym in 1994, they were creating a space for themselves and other local climbers to train and get together in between weekend trips to the local crags.<\/p>\n
They had no idea that what started as a fringe sport would grow to be in the Olympics.<\/p>\n
For knowing that they played a part in the growth of the central Ohio climbing community and climbing in general is humbling and so very exciting at the same time. Their favorite memories are those that include their kids and their climbing family. And while Vertical Adventures has grown, we will always stay true to the family values and love that started it all.<\/p>\n
5.Life is the parent company of multiple community-tailored climbing gyms. Each location has its own name and programming and its atmosphere is influenced by the community.<\/p>\n
Our name originates from combining two core aspects of our business: climbing and life. 5. represents the Yosemite Decimal System for grading technical climbing difficulty and Life flows from our desire to impart a life-long love of the sport in everyone who climbs with us. Our enduring project no matter what we accomplish on rock or in business is \u201cLife\u201d itself.<\/p>\n

It all s<\/span>tarted <\/span>when<\/span> Carrie and Alexis moved <\/span>to Columbus, OH<\/span> from the East<\/span> C<\/span>oast. They were big <\/span>Gunks<\/span> climbers and<\/span> soon learned<\/span> there was a vibrant\u00a0<\/span>Midwest <\/span>community with a need for some indoor climbing action. With the help of some friends (mostly other climbers) they hand-built Vertical Adventures and opened in <\/span>1994.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In 2012 they saw a growth spurt in their youth program and brought in Vanessa. She helped develop and implement a curriculum to keep the kids learning, growing, and climbing, while still maintaining a fully operational gym.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n As the community continued to expand, Carrie and Alexis realized there was a significant need for more space. Enter Matt and Mardi. Their kids <\/span>were <\/span>competitiv<\/span>e<\/span> climb<\/span>ers<\/span> with Team Vertical<\/span> and they saw the potential <\/span>of the sport. They<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>seized the <\/span>opportunity to work together to help m<\/span>odernize and grow <\/span>Vertical Adventures<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n After much searching, the team decided the best location for the new facility was just down the street. They broke ground on the Kingsmill Court location<\/span> and <\/span>teamed up with <\/span>Walltopia<\/span> to create a world-class climbing gym featuring 16,000 square feet <\/span>of climbing wall <\/span>with <\/span>terrain<\/span> for lead climbing, top ropes, bouldering, and areas for fitness and retail.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Vertical Adventures opened at the new location in <\/span>late <\/span>2014 and the original spot was transformed into a youth-training facility<\/span> in early 2015:<\/span> T<\/span>he Training Center. <\/span>T<\/span>he affectionately titled Monkey Room for toddler and pre-school climbers<\/span> was added and <\/span>the facility <\/span>became the <\/span>home of Team Vertical, our competitive youth climbing team<\/span>,<\/span> as well as <\/span>all of<\/span> our youth programming.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In 2018<\/span> we<\/span> entered the urban climbing environment with<\/span> Chambers<\/span>, a bouldering facility<\/span> in Grandview<\/span>. Building a customized space from the ground up <\/span>took some time but <\/span>the <\/span>bouldering and training <\/span>space was well worth the wait. Plus, it <\/span>hosts the ONLY Tension Board in Ohio.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n With three locations now operating in Central Ohio and the potential for more growth<\/span> outside the state<\/span>, the team <\/span>decided to <\/span>launch<\/span> 5.Life<\/span>, the administrative engine of the corporation. <\/span>Each gym continues to use its own name and tailors programming to each community under the <\/span>5.Life<\/span> parent company. As the sport grows and changes, <\/span>5.Life<\/span> is honored to stay committed to our core values and provide the best rock climbing experience around.<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text disabled_on=”off|off|off” _builder_version=”4.16.0″ global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n 5.Life began in 1994 as Vertical Adventures (VA) and re-branded in 2019 as it expanded into other markets. When Alexis and Carrie Roccos opened VA in Columbus, OH, it was one of only a handful of full-service indoor rock-climbing gyms in the US. Growth continued steadily for over a decade with a large boost during the Great Recession owing largely to the resulting staycation and experiences over things movements. Matt and Mardi Roberts partnered with the Roccos starting in 2012 to help lead VA into a new era in the climbing industry.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n After multiple upgrades and additions to the space, a new facility was built in 2014 a stone\u2019s throw north. Simultaneously, in 2015, the original gym was remodeled and reopened as The Training Center, serving as a dedicated competition training space. In 2018, Chambers, 5.Life\u2019s first bouldering-only gym opened in Grandview, OH and in 2020 Climb Nittany, a full-service climbing gym opened in State College, PA. We opened Bloc Garten in May 2021, beside the Scioto Audubon Metro Park in the German Village neighborhood in Columbus, OH.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n After 27 years of faithful service to the climbing community the original VA facility (operating as the Training Center) required more love and care to keep it operational than made business sense.
